About Kate Shelton
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Art Therapist who utilizes a strength based, person centered approach through the use of Art Therapy, Brainspotting, and talk therapy techniques to address treatment goals.
I have 11 years of experience working with individuals toward self improvement, through difficult life circumstances, and instilling hope when hope seems lost. I have experience working through grief and loss, depression, trauma, and anxiety. I can include art therapy in sessions to help process thoughts and emotions non-verbally, and can provide further insight into expression that words cannot do alone. I work with teens and adults. I also can include Brainspotting (level 2 trained) in sessions as well as traditional talk therapy techniques. I am also working toward a certification in perinatal mental health—I have enrolled in advanced trainings through Postpartum Support International including Perinatal Mood Disorders: Components of Care, and Perinatal Loss: Clinical and Supportive Care.
If you are dealing with a new stressful life experience, experiencing a difficult loss, or experiencing something that is difficult to express, it can quickly overshadow many areas of your life. I strive to provide a welcoming, nonjudgmental, and relaxed environment for each person. I am dedicated to providing an accepting environment to heal and grow. I encourage collaboration, and at times humor in sessions addressing loss, as laughter can be most healing. I am trained as a trauma informed clinician, and have received specific training for grief and loss, and survivors of suicide loss.
Along with being a therapist, I am a spouse, mom, sibling, and friend. I love time with my family and friends, and enjoy creating art, puttering in the yard, listening to indie rock music, and taking bike rides. Thanks for taking time to learn about me as a therapist, and I look forward to meeting with you!
